Tolstoys moving!

荷台が８メートルほどあるU-Haulの一番デカいトラックを借りてきて、私が運転しました。デカい男のデカいトラックだぜ。へっへっへ。 We got 26-footer which is the biggest one at U-Haul and I had a spin on it. A big truck for a big man. Haw-haw-haw.

　ホーボーケンでのギグの翌日、睡眠時間もそこそこにボストンに朝イチでやって来ました。スラーバとアンナの引っ越しを手伝うためです。ちょっとボストンから郊外に移ったのですが、素晴らしい環境の所でした。

After the gig in Hoboken, I had very little sleep then I jumped on the bus heading to Boston to help my friends Slava and Anna's moving. They moved a bit away from the city and the surroundings of the new place are just splendid.

これが引っ越して一番初めの家族写真になるはずでした。しかし、このシャッターを切る１秒前までいた上の子がいきなり家の中に走りこんで戻って来ませんでした。む、無念。 This photo was supposed to be the first family photo after the moving and, believe me, there was the older one standing right by them one second before I clicked the shutter of the camera but she all of a sudden ran into the house and never came out. Oh, I am mortified every time I see this photo.

Musicians in Subway

　ホーボーケンはニューヨークから本当に近いので、マンハッタンからPATHという地下鉄が通ってます。帰りはミュージシャン４人で仲良くそれに乗って帰ってきました。

Hoboken is really close to the Manhattan and there is even the subway called PATH is running between the midtown and Hoboken. All four musicians came back together on that.

Sarina Suno Quartet @ The Brass Rail

　この日はサリナちゃんのバンドで、マンハッタンからハドソン川を挟んだ対岸にあるニュージャージー州ホーボーケンという町でのギグでした。なんでも、このホーボーケンはかつて『バーが世界で一番密集している所』として、ギネスブックにも載っていたそうです。なるほど、今もワシントン・ストリートがバーだらけなのが、うなずけます。

I had a gig with Sarina's band in the town across from the Manhattan over the Hudson River called Hoboken. There are bars everywhere on Washington Street. Hoboken was once listed in the Guinness Book as the city with "Most bars in a square mile." Well, I can easily believe that was true.

　この日はインターナショナル・ストリング・トリオでスワンプスコットというボストンから北に３０分ほど離れた町にあるシナゴーグ（ユダヤ教の教会）で結婚式のギグでした。

The wedding gig at the synagogue in Swampscott, which is 30 minutes north from Boston, with International String Trio.

Children

　友達のスラーバとアンナの娘さんたちです。かーわいい！少しずつ成長してますねぃ。ギグの前に写真を撮らせてもらいました。

　ここは毎週土曜にWaFooから、ゆうきちゃん、岳史さん、一雄さんの３人で入っている場所なのですが、この日はリハも兼ねて、私も混ぜてもらい、ギターのエイジさんも応援に来てくれました。

Three of the members of WaFoo --- Yuuki, Takeshi & Kazuo --- have a regular gig at this venue and I and our friend Eiji the guitarist joined them for this one.

Staten Island Ferry

　ギグに行く時に『自由の女神』を観る観光客にはおなじみのスタッテン・アイランド・フェリーに乗りました。

When I went to the gig, I got on to the Staten Island Ferry which is very famous among tourists because you can see the Statue of Liberty (from afar, but free!)

フェリー乗り場では、ミュージシャンが演奏してたり、でっかい水槽に水族館で観るような魚が観られます。 You can see the musicians playing and the fish you only see at an aquarium at the ferry terminal.

　サリナちゃんのバンドでブルックリンにあるファーダというフランス料理の店でギグでございます。

The gig with Sarina's band at the French bistro called Fada in Brooklyn.

生肉でございます。日本人と韓国人以外でも生肉を食うのですね。久々の生肉にちょっと緊張してまいました。チッ、こんな知らず知らずのうちにアメリカ人化している自分がイヤ。大日本帝国万歳。 It's raw meat. Well, we Japanese do eat raw meat like raw fish, but I have not had that for such a long time and I am pretty sure that that was the first time to have raw meat at neither Japanese nor Korean restaurants. I was a bit --- how can I put --- alarmed. Shoot, now I'm talking like a bloody American. I hate myself being Americanized without known. I AM Japanese all the way.
