　コーディーのカルテットでセントラル・パークの目の前にあるニューヨーク・アスレチック・クラブという所でのギグでございます。天気も良く、マンハッタンではあまり観られない緑がどこまでも広がっている光景が観れました。

The gig was at the New York Athletic Club which is located right in front of the Central Park with Cody's Quartet. The weather was good, the wind felt really good and we could see the vast and peaceful Spring scene which we had almost never seen in the middle of Manhattan.

WaFoo @ Holy Child Church

　WaFooでスタッテン島にあるホーリー・チャイルド・チャーチでギグがございました。ここで演奏するのは２回目でございますね。前回同様、ありがたい事に大盛況でありました。ちなみに上の写真で私が持っているのは今回のギグから正式採用になった沖縄の民族楽器、三線（さんしん）でございます。そしてギグの後は伊藤園さんの提供によるお茶の試飲会が行われました。詳しくは下のリンクの写真をご覧くださいませ。

I had a gig with WaFoo at the Holy Child Church in Staten Island, NY. It was the second time to perform at the church and, as we had on the first time, we had so much kind applause from the audience. Thanks to everyone who came to the concert. We also had the tea tasting party and the tea was provided by Ito-en. I put all the photos on another site. By the way, the string instrument I am holding on the top photo is the traditional Okinawan instrument called Sanshin. This instrument has very particular sound which includes lots of "buzzing sound," or as the guitarists call "fret noise" which all guitarists including myself are trying to eliminate as much as possible. I am going to use it on every WaFoo's concert from this day forward.

Million Trees NYC

　ニューヨークでは『ミリオン・ツリーズ・ニューヨーク・シティ』というプロジェクトが進行しておりまして、ニューヨーク市に100万本の木を植えようという運動でございます。この白い花もその一環として植えられたそうで、ギグに行く途中の道でも、そこかしこに咲いておりました。例によって花の名前は分からないのですが、リンゴの花っぽいです。り〜んご〜の花〜び〜らが〜、風〜に〜散〜ったよなあ〜。（美空ひばり先生万歳）

The project named "Million Trees NYC" is going on in New York. As the name says what it is, this is the project to plant a million trees in New York City and they have planted a little less than a quarter of a million trees so far. These trees with white flowers you see pretty much in everywhere in NYC were planted as the part of this project. I am suck at the names of the flowers but they look like the flowers of apples.

Gift from Lewis

　ジェフの息子さんのルイスが私に手紙を添えてこんな物をくれました。コーヒーの詰め合わせでございます。あああああ、こんなええモンをありがとお！おっちゃん、大切に飲むからね〜！

　私の生徒からクリスマス・プレゼントを頂いた時以来の感動を味わいました。ああ、私は幸せ者でございます。

Jeff's son, Lewis, gave me a coffee set with a nice card. Aaaaaahhhhh, thank you very very very much Lewis. I will enjoy every sip of it.

I have not touched this much since my students gave nice Christmas presents a few years ago. Oh, I am just so happy.

Musique Makers @ Longfellow's Wayside Inn

　またまたボストンで〜す。この日はボストン郊外のサドバリーという町にあるアメリカ最古の民宿、ウェイサイド・インで結婚式のギグでございました。古い友人のジェフのバンドでクラシックとジャズを演奏しました。

In Boston again. I had a wedding gig at Wayside Inn which is the oldest operating inn in the U.S.. My old friend Jeff, who plays even more instruments than me, gave me this gig and we played classical and jazz.

　またまたニューヨークでブライダル関係のショーケースのギグでございます。うーむ、すっかり油断していてバンドの写真を撮るのを忘れてしまいました。コーディー、ハラ、イアン、ごめんね。

Again it was a showcase gig for bridal venders. I am so sorry but I forgot to take photos of the band. Cody, Hara and Ian, SORRY!

Cody Geil Quartet for Martha Stewart Magazine

　この日はマーサ・スチュアートというアメリカのカリスマ主婦が出した『マーサ・スチュアート』という女性誌のパーティーに行ってきました。このマーサさんというのはアメリカではすんごい有名な実業家で、おそらく彼女が経営する雑誌以外の部門もそのビルに入っており、料理教室用のキッチンがズラッと並んでいたり、通販を扱っているのであろうオフィスや、すでに今年のクリスマスの事を照準に入れているらしい雑誌編集部などがありました。我々はそのビルの中のマーサ・スチュアートと書かれたパーティー会場で演奏したのですが、これが、まーバカでかい。上の写真がそうなのですが、ニューヨークに一企業が擁するパーティー会場でこれだけの大きさの物があるとは、本当に驚きです。

It was the gig for Martha Stewart Magazine. I think half of the building was for Martha Stewart Empire. I saw whole bunch of kitchens maybe for cooking class or something, offices and warehouse, the editorial department for the magazine and the huge party hall which is on the top photo. Full of surprises in this building.

Hara's moving

　友人のギタリスト、ハラの引っ越しを手伝ってきました。ちょっとしたロフトのような感じになってます。すんごいカッコいい部屋でした。しかも周りにはコンビニやら日系のスーパーやら図書館やらが揃ってます。

　うーむ、もはや私も車を乗らなくなって駐車する場所を気にしなくても良くなったのだし、ブルックリンじゃなくって、マンハッタンに引っ越してもいいんだよなぁ。
I helped the move of my buddy Hara the guitarist. The new place is like a loft and looks so urban. Plus he has everything around it; convenience stores, Japanese supermarket, library etc.

Well, I don't drive any more and don't have to worry about the parking spot, so I myself can move to Manhattan from Brooklyn. Hmm, something to think about.....

Takeshi's Birthday

　ウチのキーボーディストの岳史さんの誕生日です。リハーサルの後に近くのステーキハウスに行ってお祝いしました。

It was the birthday of our keyboardist Takeshi. All the band members went to a steakhouse and celebrate after the rehearsal.

Rehearsal with WaFoo

　WaFooでリハーサルでございます。一見、なんの変哲もない、いつもの愉快なリハーサル風景ですが、全国3000万人のWaFooファンの皆様、お気づきでしょうか。キーボードの岳史さん、ベースの一雄さんがギターを弾き、私、一平はベースを弾いております。不思議と楽器をいくつも弾ける人が集まったWaFooですが、『何か楽器を変えてできる曲があったら面白いねー』という話になり、ちょっと練習しているところでございます。私、WaFooでは数年前にたった一度だけベースを弾いた時があるのですが、それ以来は全くベースを弾いたことはありませんでした。まあ、私には他に弾かなくてはいけない楽器がありましたし、意識的にベースは避けておりました。うーむ、まあ今回だけはそういう企画だから仕方がないか。

It looks like just another fun rehearsal with WaFoo but Takeshi the keyboardist and Kazuo the bassist are playing the guitars and I, Ippei the percussionist is playing the bass. We did not intend but everyone in WaFoo is happened to be a multi-instrumentalist, so we thought it will be cool to switch instruments and play a tune or two. Maybe the people who are reading my blog have never noticed but I have almost never played the bass with WaFoo. I have always had other instruments to play in this band and have been trying avoiding the bass on purpose. Well, but maybe just for this time, I'll play the bass.
