Russians made two of the greatest inventions; Tetris and Russian pastries. People say Vodka and Periodic table are two of the greatest inventions of Russia but, comparing to Tetris and pastries, the impact to the world is so small. Russian pastries are bloody excellent. The one on the pic is called Pirog, the pie filled with the paste of walnuts and blue berries.
I have to watch out for the calorie though.

New York Public Library
The paintings on the ceiling and the wall on the third floor. Wow, I have never noticed that there were such great paintings in here. The tourists in there were taking the pictures of them and I finally realized they were there.

30-day unlimited pass
Do you know what this is? A 30-day pass of subways? You are way off. This is the remedy for my seasonal depressive disorder. Now the wedding season had ended, I quite often stay at home and that makes me low energy. This pass will force me to go to the outside world, go and see shows, say hi to all the performers, give them my business cards and make some connections.

International String Trio in Portsmouth, RI
A wedding gig in Portsmouth, Rhode Island with International String Trio. It was drizzling on and off and that made whole scenery illusory.

New York Public Library
I came back to New York Public Library. Some newly-wed couple were taking the commemorative photos in front of the famous statue of lion. This is quite an odd place to see newly-wed but maybe this is a great site to take the photos because the whole view is really New York looking.

WaFoo @ Staten Island Jazz Festival
| Yuuki Koike (Flute) Takeshi Asai (Keyboard) Kazuo Nakamura (Bass) Ippei Ichimaru (Shamisen, Cello, Percussion) | |
Staten Island, New York is WaFoo's foothold, We just participated in the Staten Island Jazz Festival for the first time. Well, it was very first time for us to perform at any kind of jazz festival, period. That was our big challenge. Our music has a fragrance of jazz but not that much. We were not sure how the jazz funs were going to respond to our music. After our performance, the kind audiences gave us a round of applause. That answered our question. It was a very fruitful concert for WaFoo.
After the festival, we went to all-you-can-eat sushi in Brooklyn and literary did all- we-can-eat. This is the part we enjoy the most. |

WaFoo Chamber Unit @ Tuttoriso in Staten Island, NY

WaFoo played at the organic restaurant where we usually play every week before the festival. I brought a riq, the Middle-Eastern tambourine, and an ukulele which I borrowed from my friend Kelly. I use a tambourine a lot in this band so riq fit right in, and the uke also add interesting atmosphere to WaFoo. We do not have a guitarist in the band so this kind of strumming instrument fill in the missing area of our music.
I decided not to add any more instruments on top of 10+ instruments that I play, but it looks like I have to learn another instrument...... Just like 10 instruments are not enough.....

The 500th Entry Mark!!
![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
This is the 500th entry mark. To celebrate this special occasion, I renewed the design of the site. Well, if you are reading my blog on FaceBook, nothing had changed. (If you are reading on FaceBook and if you are curious, my real blog site is here and that is where all the entries have been imported from.
Comparing to videos, I feel writings, like blogs, have more heart in them. What is more, I can read and write on whenever I want, I can read fun entries again and again, and you don't have to read at all if you don't feel like it. I love this freeness of blog.
This is fun doing it. I will keep jotting down stuff.

Art works by Mr. Tim Moran

We were chatting with the audience after the WaFoo's concert at a church on the last Saturday and a gentleman came up to us with his iPhone and said, "Hey, I drew you guys on my iPhone." Then he showed us a couple of drawings on the tiny screen of his iPhone. Mr. Tim Moran, the professional artist, drew the pics of two of the members, Yuuki & me, in such a short period of time using the application called "Brushes" on iPhone. Wow, they are amazing pics! He drew them while we were performing. About half a year ago, the cover of The New Yorker magazine was drawn the same way and that was the hot topic back then. (Here is the article. There is an interesting movie how it was drawn on that page). Well, I could not believe if anybody could really draw a picture on the tiny screen of iPhone just using fingers until I saw the actual drawings on THE tiny screen with my own eyes. They are energetic pics. I can almost hear the groove coming out from these drawings. Tim said that he would come to our show again and draw the rest of the members.
Tim, Thank you very very much for such a wonderful gift. We are looking forward to seeing you again in our future concert.
