Now that my roommates left for a-month-long tour to Japan, I'll take care of the pet ferret, Robby. He is fun to hang around with.

長〜い一日の終わりのギグです。サリナちゃんとハラのギグで、"The House" という初めてやるレストランでの演奏でした。とてもおしゃれで、まさにデートスポットといった雰囲気です。
This is the last gig of the loooong day. This is Sarina and Hara's new gig at The House. The inside is really lovely and has THE romantic atmosphere.
なんとギグの途中でサリナちゃんが使っていた弓が折れるというハプニングが発生！この子はただ可愛いだけの子などではなく、本当に努力家で、１日中ひっきりなしにバイオリンの仕事をしてます。折れてしまった弓は楽器屋に自分の弓を修理に出している間に代わりに貸してくれた『代車』らしいのですが、サリナちゃんの酷使に弓の方が先に音を上げてしまったのでしょう。すごすぎる。私も見習わなくては。
All of a sudden, we experienced an unusual happening; Sarina's violin bow was broken. She is not just a pretty face in the band at all but really is a hard-working musician. She literally plays violin whole day for gigs. The broken bow was the one she borrowed from a violin shop while she put her bow in repair. I guess the bow gave up before Sarina did on this nonstop overtaxing. Wow, I should do as she does and practice hard.

ナラオカ一家を空港まで送ったあと、家で休んでいると、ギタリストのハラから留守電が残ってました。昼からワシントン・スクエアでやるけど、来ないか、面白いパーカッションがいるんだ、と言うのです。私は前日までの疲れで、すっかり熟睡していたためにそのメッセージにずっと気づかず、１時間遅れで到着しました。すでにサリナちゃん達は１セット終わって休憩しているところでした。
After I gave a ride my roommates to the airport, I was sound asleep. I was exhausted with the continuous driving and playing for last 4 days. I didn't realized Hara left me a message that they would be playing in Washington Square Park from noon. He added that he had an interesting percussionist. I got that message way too late and I arrived at the site an hour late. They had done one set already and were having a rest.
１０日前の４月２５日にここワシントン・スクエアに来て演奏したのですが、散り始めていた桜は完全に花を落とし、春というよりも初夏の風になっています。
We just played in Washington Square on April 25, which is ten days ago. The cherry blossoms which had started falling were completely gone, and it seems like early-Summer rather than Spring.
サリナちゃんとハラのいつものメンバーに加え、デイヴィッドというフランス人のパーカッショニストがいました。『ディッシュ』という手製のパーカッションを使っていました。

今朝はルームメイトのノリちゃんとトモコさんと優一君のナラオカ一家をケネディ空港まで送ってきました。これから１ヶ月間、日本にツアーだそうです。頑張ってね。
I sent my roommates, Nori, Tomoko & Yuichi off at JFK airport. Nori will be touring all over Japan for next one month.
私の大親友のスラーバとアンナに２人目の娘さんが生まれました。名前はアレクサンドラ・トルストイです。おめでとう！
Dear friends of mine, Slava and Anna had a baby girl today. Her name is Alexandra Tolstoy. Congratulations guys!
Aaaaaaahhhhh, she'll be as beautiful as Anna and Nastya.
まず初めに当日の朝に突然、会場が変更になった事をお詫びします。我々にとっても青天の霹靂で、サウンドチェックのために２時間前にDelfino Parkに付くと、その会場となるスケート場は鍵がかけられ、人っ子一人いないという目が点になるような状況でした。皆様、申し訳ございません。しかし、突然の変更であっても、会場が室内から屋外に変わったのは嬉しいことでもありました。雨の予報があったために近隣のDelfino Parkの屋内スケート場へと会場が一度は変わったのですが、Turnure Park で桜に囲まれながら演奏するというのは、私たちも毎年楽しみにしていることですし、やっぱり花見は外でないといけません。花見を屋内でやるなんて、キャンプファイアを屋内でやるようなものです。
First of all, we apologize for the last-minute location change. We, the performers, did not even get notified, but in a way, I'm glad that they changed the location back to outdoor even if it was at very last minute. The cherry-blossom viewing is very popular event in Japan and of course it is very outdoor event. The festival coordinators switched the location to the near-by indoor ice rink because they were expecting some rain. Viewing Sakura from inside through windows?? No-no-no, it has to be outside. It's like doing a campfire in indoor.
我々のコンサートに足を運んで下さった方々、そして偶然居合わせて我々の演奏を聴いてくれた方々にお礼を言います。４曲だけのショート・コンサートでしたが、大変に満足できる仕上がりになりました。
We would like to thank everybody who came to our concert and also everybody who happened to be there and listened to our performance. Although we only had enough time to play four tunes, we were satisfied with whole concert.
三時間の睡眠の後、今日のフェスティバルがあるホワイト・プレーンズへと車を走らせました。毎年のことなんですが、この日は"Five Boro Bike Tour"という自転車のイベントと重なります。なんでもレースではなく娯楽目的の自転車イベントとしてはアメリカ最大の規模らしくて、５つに別れたニューヨーク市の行政区の全てを自転車で走破しようという企画です。そう言えば、昔に音楽教室で教えていた時に同僚のギターの先生で、しかもセミプロの自転車の選手がいたのですが、その人もこのイベントの事を話していました。
I started driving after three hours of sleep to White Plains where the festival I'm going to play is held today. On every year, the day of the festival falls on the day of the largest recreational cycling event in US, "Five Boro Bike Tour." It's the event ride through all five boroughs of New York City and everyone can entry. I remember that my ex-co-worker at the music school where I used to teach was actually a semi-professional biker and he was talking about this event.

| レースではないので、老若男女が参加していて、あちらこちらでのんびりと休んでる人もいました。 Since this is not a race, young and old and men and women are participating in this event and also they can have some rests at will. |
天気は一昨日あたりから春先だというのに雨が続いていますが、今日もたくさんの父兄の方々が講堂に入っていました。最終日の今日も何事もなく無事に舞台を終了しました。舞台後にちょっとしたセレモニーがあり、生徒達から先生や私たち伴奏者に花や贈り物が手渡されました。
Although it has been raining for the past few days in the beginning of the Spring time, Lots of parents and friends showed up for the play. The last performance has ended successfully and there was a small ceremony after the play. The students were showing appreciation to all the teachers, the backstage guys and us musicians. I got a flower of rose. nice!

今日も良いショーでした。初日に比べて高校生たちもまとまりが出て来ていて、ミュージシャンも伴奏しやすくなりました。そうそう、書くのを忘れてましたが、女子高なのに男の子が写真に数名写ってますが、彼らは近くの高校の生徒だそうです。
Another good show today. The students were much more together and, for us musicians, it was much easier to accompany them. I forgot to write that this high school is an all-girls high school and a few boys on the picture is the ones from other high schools close by.
私はここWakefieldという町には以前に来たことがあるとは分かっていたのですが、今日の今日まで思い出せませんでした。ここは私がまだブラジリアン柔術に燃えていたころ、柔道の投げ技を習うために、アテネ・オリンピックの柔道の銅メダリストでもあるジミー・ペドロ先生の道場にたびたび出稽古に来ていた町でした。その道場は立ち技を勉強させていただいた所でもあり、私にとっては柔術に決別した場所でもあります。この道場に出稽古に来ている時に一瞬の気のゆるみで私は足首を負傷し、そのまま引退となってしまいました。もう４年も前の話です。
I vaguely remember that I have come to this town, Wakefield, MA. Now I remember that I used to come to Wakefield to practice martial arts at the judo academy of the Bronze medalist of Athene Olimpic, Jimmy Pedro sensei. When I was really into Brazillian Jiu-jitsu, I studied the standing technique of judo in here, and also, this is the place I parted from jiu-jitsu. I got severe injury on my right ankle when I was practicing at the academy. I couldn't continue doing jiu-jitsu because of that and retired from it. It was four years ago already.
今日はいつも一緒にバンドをやっているギタリストのハラを車に乗っけて、ボストン近郊のウェイクフィールド(Wakefield)という町のOur Lady of Nazareth Academyという女子高にやってきました。ハラが音楽監督を務める高校生のミュージカルの伴奏をするためです。"Godspell" というコメディーで、高校生たちが一所懸命に舞台上で歌ったり踊ったりしてます。気合いの入ったプロフェッショナルのシアター・カンパニーでもまれてきた私ですが、これはこれで微笑ましいです。ただ、このミュージカルのストーリーが宗教的なテーマで、元の話（聖書のマタイの福音が元）を知らないと笑えない部分も多々あり、正直言うと私にもよく分からない所がありました。（という理由で、日本ではあんまりやってる劇団はないようです）。でも７０年代にブロードウェイで2600回も公演されたそうですから、アメリカでは有名なミュージカルだそうです。
リハもなしでぶっつけ本番だったのですが、まあなんとか『列車事故 (Train wreck)』（アメリカ人はとんでもない状況の事をこう言います）にならずに済みました。まだ初日の初演なので、あと２回でさらにいいパフォーマンスになると思います。
I drove all the way up to Boston today with my guitarist buddy, Hara. We came here for the musical "Godspell" by high school students at Our Lady of Nazareth Academy in Wakefield, Massachusetts. Hara takes the part of the music director of the show. We did a performance cold but it was a fine performance and there wasn't --- Thank God --- a train wreck. Today's show was very first performance so we'll get better and better in two more performances.
