　またまたロードアイランド州ニューポートの『マンション・アヴェニュー（豪邸街）』にインターナショナル・ストリング・トリオで戻って来ました。今日の式場は、他の豪邸街の家とはちょっと変わっていました。室内の調度品やら装飾品やら美術品やらが、全て中世ヨーロッパ一色に統一されてます。ほー、これはすごい。なかなか印象深い式場でございました。

We have come back to the Mansion Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island again. This mansion is not any other mansions on the avenue. The place was filled with Medieval furnitures, paintings, armors, stained glasses, chandeliers, carriages and so on. Wow, it was really impressive venue.

International String Trio @ Bedford Village Inn

　この日は大変気持ちよい青空のもと、遠路はるばるニューハンプシャー州のベッドフォードに来ました。インターナショナル・ストリング・トリオで結婚式のギグだったのですが、トリオと称しつつ、今日はデュオです。ベンがバイオリン、そして私がチェロで、２人で２時間ほど演奏しました。

We drove to Bedford, New Hampshire. It was a wedding gig with International String Trio. The name is "trio" but today, we are just duo. Ben on violin and me on cello. Two of us played for two hours.

　この日はスラーバとアンナの家に泊めていただきました。娘さんたちと一緒に遊んでおります。一平、至福の時でございます。

Slava and Anna kindly put me up and I was hanging with their daughters. Supreme bliss, it was.

International String Trio @ Fruitlands Museum

　まー皆さん、まずは写真を見てくんなまし。素晴らしい景観でしょ。ミュージシャンになるとね、こういう素晴らしい所にいつも来れるんですぜー！ほーっほっほっほ。ミュージシャン稼業は、この間のケープ・コッドしかり、ニューポートしかり、自然の美しさもたーんと堪能でき、しかも同時にマンハッタンやボストンの都会の夜景をバックに仕事もできてしまう素敵な商売なのでございますよ。まあ色々と労働災害もありますけど、こういう美景は全てを相殺できます。やっぱりミュージシャンになって良かったです。

Ladies and Gents, first, I want you to take a look at the photos. Aren't they absolutely beautiful? If you become a musician, you can come to this kind of places all the time! Ha-ha-ha. We musicians see the beauty of natures like this place or Cape Cod or Newport where I had just played. At the same time, we can also enjoy the killer cityscapes of Manhattan and Boston and all the big cities in the world. I recently think being a musician is a good opportunity itself. Meaning, just being a musician, I have so many opportunities to see beautiful views in everywhere, opportunities to meet good people and opportunities to be a better human being. Well, we do have occupational hazards as well but these good things cancel out those bad things. I am so glad I became a musician.

　ここには２ヶ月前にも同じインターナショナル・ストリング・トリオで来たのですが、この日の風景はまた格別でございました。そうそう、トンボがやたらと飛んでいましたねぃ。どーりでヤブ蚊がいないはずだ。子供の時にここに来てたら、大はしゃぎで１日中トンボを追いかけまわしていたことでしょう。

I had come here a couple of months ago with the same band, International String Trio, and today's view was somehow different and better. I cannot forget to mention that there were so many dragonflies. No wonder there were no mosquitos or any annoying bugs. I, and all the Japanese boys, love dragonflies. If I had come here when I was a kid, I would be in heaven and would have been chasing dragonflies all day long.

Fiat Multipla (First generation)

　ボストンのフェンウェイで見かけた超カワイイ車でございます。『ダイハツ・ミゼットやー！三丁目の夕日やー！』と大喜びでございました。エンブレムに『フィアット』の『７５０』と書いてありましたが、年代は分かりません。写真を拡大してみると分かると思うのですが、上にTAXIのサインがあり、元はタクシーだったようです。んで、ネットでかなり意地になって調べたのですが、どうやらこれは初代フィアット・６００・ムルティプラ（タクシー仕様）という車で間違いないと思います。おそらく、エンブレムはオリジナルの６００のパーツが見つからなかったので、７５０のパーツで代用しているのでしょう。

　いやー、わたし、カーマニアとかじゃないんですけど、今日はエエもん見さしてもらいました。

The ultra cute car which I saw in Fenway, Boston. The emblem said "Fiat" and "750." If you zoom up on the top pic, you can see the sign says "TAXI" on the top of roof. Well, I made a thorough search for this car and this unknown object was identified as Fiat 600 Multipla (First Generation). I think the owner could not find the original emblem of Fiat 600, so he put the one from Fiat 750.

I am not a classic car maniac or anything, but seeing this beauty surely made my day!

International String Trio @ Astors' Beechwood Mansion

　霧に包まれた海辺の豪邸での結婚式でございます。インターナショナル・ストリング・トリオでニューポートの『マンション・アベニュー（豪邸街）』と呼ばれる所にやってきました。この日はとにかく蒸し暑かったです。iPhoneでお天気チャンネルを調べると、ニューポートはなんと湿度９７％。濃霧がたちこめ、文字通りむせぶような霧の中での結婚式でした。しかし、それが不思議な幻想感を出して、違和感はありません。この雰囲気の中でいつもとちょっと違った演奏ができました。

Wedding at a mansion by the shore covered up in the fog. International String Trio came to what-so-called Mansion Avenue in Newport. It was a muggy day. I checked the Wether Channel on my iPhone and it said that the humidity of Newport was 97%. This heavy fog almost made me feel like hard to breathe. At the same time, the fog was emitting the mystic mood in the air and that was not so unfit for the whole place. We played quite differently - in good way - in this atmosphere.

Lunch in Newport

　ロードアイランド州ニューポートに来ました。ギグの前にバンドで昼食を取ろうということになりました。いえ、そんな上等な物ではありませんね。野郎３人でのんびりと昼メシでございますよ。そう言えば、ニューポートにはギグでけっこう来るんですけど、この中心地の繁華街に来るのは久しぶりです。

　３人でとりとめのない事を話ながら、巨大サンドイッチをがっつきました。仲間とダベりながらメシを食っている時間は本当に気持ちいいです。歳を取るにつれて、こういう時間のありがたみが良く分かってきます。

This is Newport, Rhode Island. The band stopped by to have some lunch. In other words, we arrived too early and had a time to spare. I often come to Newport for gigs but that was the first time in a long time to come to the downtown Newport.

Three guys had a bite on gigantic sandwiches and had some chat.

The time and space that I grab a bite and chat with fellow musicians is precious. I appreciate it more and more as I get older.

Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

　ずーっと来たかったボストン美術館にようやく来れました。ボストンはそれこそ毎週行っているのですが、ここには来れなかった理由があるのでございます。それはひとえに、この美術館は『水曜日の４時以降はタダで入れる』というシステムにございます。普通に入ると２０ドルかかるのに、水曜の夜ならタダ。それなら水曜に来たいのが人情じゃありませんか。しかし水曜にボストンにいて、しかも夜に仕事がない日など全くなく、タイミングを合わせようと待つこと５年、一平はこの日ようやくここに帰ってこれたと言うわけでございます。心の声が『そんなに待つのならとっとと２０ドル払わんかい』と私にツッコミを入れますが、ま、とりあえず来ることができたのだから良いではないですか。はっはっは。

I came to where I wanted to come for a long time; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Yes, I go to Boston almost every week and why didn't I come this museum sooner? I can explain. Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) offers free admission after 4pm on Wednesday and, although I have been in Boston a lot, I have hardly ever been in Boston on Wednesday and even if I were in Boston on Wednesday which is very rare, I always had gigs at night. Maybe you are saying the same thing as my inner voice had been saying, "Pay 20 bucks for admission and just get over it." Well, 20 bucks is 20 bucks...... This is why I had not been able to come back.... for five years.

　そうそう、見たことはなかったのですが、楽器コレクションのコーナーも小さい部屋ながらできてました。世界中の楽器でけっこう古い楽器やいわゆる『キワ物』の楽器もありました。私も弾く楽器もありましたよ。1820年製の三味線や、こんな三弦のコントラバスもありました。

Oh yes, I had never seen but there was the musical instrument collection at the museum. New and old, the ones look familiar and the ones not so much, from inside and outside of the US. There were the instruments I play as well. Here are Shamisen from 1820 and three-string contrabass.

　数々の素晴らしい美術品を鑑賞できて、一平、至福の時を過ごすことができました。ちなみに私のお目当てはこれでございました。

　どうせまた５年ぐらい来ないのだろうから、この石像をじっと５分ほどまばたきせずに凝視して、目に焼き付けてきました。

　とにかく素晴らしい美術館です。皆さんもボストンにきたら是非行ってみて下さい。

I had a wonderful time in here and enjoyed huge collection of artworks and archeological artifacts. There is one artwork/artifacts I really admire.

King Menkaure (Mycerinus) and queen

I don't have a good eye for art or anything but I enjoyed this one a lot. I knew that I was not coming back any time soon so I locked on to this artwork, didn't blink for five minutes and burnt it on my pupil.

MFA is just a wonderful museum. If you come to Boston, you have got to go to MFA.

　たま〜にあるのですが、２日連続で同じ所でギグでございます。ボストンまで片道２時間離れていますので、当然、昨日はここに泊まろうという話にはなったのですが、『１泊６００ドルだよ』と言われ、我々は『し、失礼しましたー』と謝ってボストンに逃げ帰ってきました。いくら綺麗な所だとは言え、６００ドルあったらリゾートで１泊するよりもCDを４０枚買う方を選びますよね。

It sometimes happens but we played at the exact same place as the day before. Where we played was about two hours away from Boston so we wanted to stay at there to save four hours of drive. We had a small problem though. The wedding coordinator said that the only room available would cost us six bills. We ran like wind to the car and hit the road. We did not say a word but we agreed. If I had six bills, I would much rather buy 40 CDs.

　というわけで、インターナショナル・ストリング・トリオ『ケープ・コッドの結婚式』第二夜でございます。景観はもちろん文句なしの美しさで、オープンデッキで潮風に吹かれながらの演奏でした。大変気持ちの良い一日でございました。

So, this is the take 2 of "The Wedding in Cape Cod" starring International String Trio. The view was excellent of course, and we played on the open deck. The ocean breeze felt really good. That was a good day.

　インターナショナル・ストリング・トリオでマサチューセッツの避暑地、ケープ・コッドに来ております。結婚式シーズンになるとケープ・コッドには何度も来るのですが、美しい所には何回来てもいいものですね。この日は天気も良く、綺麗なビーチで結婚式でした。

I came to Cape Cod, a summer resort in Massachusetts, with International String Trio. I come to Cape Cod quite a lot in wedding season, these beautiful views make me want to come back more. The weather was really good. Perfect for a wedding on gorgeous beach.

Class of 2013

　この本屋さんで突然目に入ってきた『2013年』の文字に一瞬ギョッとしてしまいました。『ようこそ、2013年度の卒業生』と書かれてあります。これはアメリカの大学と日本の大学との相違点なのですが、すでに入学する前から卒業するであろう年で呼称して『クラス・オブ・何々』と呼ぶのです。この場合は今年（2009年）入学ですから『クラス・オブ・2013年』となる訳です。私もアメリカに暮らして長いのですが、こんなんで驚いてまうところが、まだ日本人なのですねぃ。2013年って私が40になる年です。ああ、それまでに結婚して家庭が持ててたらいいな‥‥‥‥‥

Year 2013!? It says "Welcome Class of 2013." I was surprised for a second when I saw this at the Boston University bookstore. Right, the year I thought so very far away is already there. I mean here. This is a good reality check. The year 2013 is the year I am going to turn 40. I have got to have a better life by then and get married and have a family.

New sneakers

　おニューの靴でございま〜す。ほーっほっほっほ。数年ぶりにスニーカーを履きました。

My new shoes! Ha-ha. I have not had a pair of sneakers for at least a few years.

Lechmere, Boston

　ボストンのリッチメアというモールに来ました。１日中練習したり曲を書いたりしていたので、息抜きにお買い物でございます。

I came to the mall in Lechmere, Boston. I was practicing and writing a tune whole day so this is my rest stop.

New York Public Library

　ニューヨーク公共図書館でございます。この日は一日ここで曲を書いてました。

This is New York Public Library. I was writing an arrangement whole day. Well, I want to get busy next year.

United Nations Headquarters

　ニューヨークの観光名所、国連の本部ビルでございます。なんか通りかかったので、とりあえず記念撮影。

This is the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. I was just passing by and took a pic just for the heck of it.
