New iPhone

New 3rd-generation iPhone is coming to the market. I have the 2nd-generation 16GB iPhone so it does not change much in my end but, because the 3rd-generation is for the world market, Apple fixed the foreign language system and now I can punch in in Japanese. This change a whole lot for me. Thanks to Apple.

Where is Nori?

My fruitful 3-day mini tour to Boston has ended and came back to my home in Brooklyn in the morning. Huh? Usually I see my roommate Nori's bass amp as soon as I open the door but it was not there. Tomoko said that he had left for another tour last night. Jeez! He just came back from 1-month long Japan tour playing jazz, and now he left for 1-week long US tour playing rock.

Hey great job Nori. Be a strong father and work hard for Yuichi and Tomoko. Ah, now I remember Father's day is coming up this week-end.

Alexei Tsiganov Trio @ Bee Hive

I had a rehearsal with Alexei and Renato this morning, went to shopping with Anna and Sasha in the evening, and had a gig at night. What an A+ day. I hope everyday is the perfect day as today.

Alexei Tsiganov (Keyboard), Renato Malavasi (Drums) and I came to the bar "Bee Hive" in Boston. We played Latin and Brazillian music putting our 100%. My Japanese blood boils every time I play this kind of high-energy festive music. Another great gig.

At Tolstoys

I'm staying at Slava and Anna's place again this week for three days. THANK YOU!! LOVE YOU!! Last two days have been extremely busy for me and I should be dead tired but for some reason I still had a lot of go and started writing the blog on my computer. That's as far as I remember.

"Ippei! It's dinner!"

I heard Slava's voice an hour later saying so. Wow I think I literary passed out. I saw the display of my macbook and realized that I didn't even finish one line of the blog. I guess I lost consciousness right away. Jeez, feeling not tired even if you are overworking is the deadly pattern of Karoshi. I have to watch myself.

Some thoughts

After the second gig, we stayed a little longer at the park and had some rest. I had a bit of quarrel with my good friend Slava for the first time in long time. We apologized to each other but that was the quarrel I stupidly initiated. I am so sorry Slava. I have been in attacking mode with no reason like when I was a college student.

I was under a lot of stress when I was in the college. I do not feel the same way now but I feel a little feverish haste lately. In those days, I was just another hick from Australia. I decided to make living in music business and was practicing and studying as hard as I could. I felt nervous every day about my own future. After I graduated from the college I could not make living by just doing music so I worked as a mover, a construction worker, a wall painter etc.. I was struggling in this world.

Now twelve years had past since I immigrated to this country, I was blessed with a lot of gigs and a lot of great friends. I met good professors and good fellow students at the college, and met good students and good co-workers at the music school I was teaching at. I met so many good musician friends and they all are my asset. I love this job and feel lucky that I could choose to be a musician by profession. Recently I feel urged to take some kind of action on my life. In this business, you don’t know how long you’ll have gigs. I’m 34 now and just need some kind of change like teaching again in New York, setting up a booking agency, making an album, putting together a solo act, going back to Japan and learn the traditional Japanese music, moving to Europe for one more adventure, or screw everything and go back to Australia and build a happy family which is my long-cherished dream.

I set the end of this year to be the absolute deadline to make the final decision. Haste makes waste, but I don't want to feel like I'm dallying away my time.

International String Trio @ Massachusetts Horticultural Society

A beautiful park. I came to Massachusetts Horticultural Society for a wedding gig. This is the oldest horticultural organization in the US. Evidently I saw historic-looking mansions, statues, water fountains etc.. That was just what one would expect of a horticultural society. The landscapes like you would only see in postcards were in everywhere. The beautiful views were well worth coming all the way from New York. I thought I had played in almost all wedding sites around Boston but I was surprised that there were still more beautiful sites like this left in Boston.

Alexi Tsiganov Trio @ Brandeis University

The gig with my buddies, Alexei & Renato, this morning at Brandeis University. It was a reunion party. Brandeis Uni is a quite renowned Jewish uni especially in the field of political science. In my Boston years, I came to this uni several times for gigs.

Kosher sectionGeneral section

The party was held at the cafeteria and I think it was the first time I have been to the cafeteria in Brandeis. Actually I'm sure it was the first time. There was something I have never seen before. The cafeteria is perfectly separated in Kosher section and general section including the tray-return area. We were told to return the used dishes to the kosher tray-return area. I have been to literally hundreds of Jewish weddings and restaurants and have eaten Jewish food with Jewish people but this much thoroughgoing separation is my very first experience. Well, I respect what they believe in. It must be tough to conjoin the food for the ones with strict religious precepts and the ones without.

Smart ForTwo

Do you guys know the car called Smart? I spotted it in Cape Cod and that was my second time I saw this super small 600cc car. The car came into market in the beginning of this year so not too many of them are around just yet.
Well, it is so small and looks like it flips over by a gust of wind or something.

International String Trio @ Chatham Bars Inn

I'll be in the State of Massachusetts for next three days. I left New York around 6pm and came to Boston after four hours of driving. I stopped by at a service area in Boston and saw a middle-school girl wearing the T-shirts of Matsuzaka the pitcher of Red Sox. I feel I came back to Boston when I see this kind of thing.
I picked up other musicians and headed for Cape Cod which is another two hours away. It's a wedding gig today.

The gig itself was only two hours so it was not a long gig but I drove nine hours total today. I was so whipped because of that.

I don't know why but I kind of like this ocean-themed wedding cake. Some of the shells on the cake were real ones.

Crews GTN-5

My roommate, Nori, brought back a new electric Bass, Crews GTN-5. Nori said that the owner of the Crews Co. saw Yuichi and said "Raise him well" and gave Nori a bass like nothing. Ooooo, I love this kind of old-style samurai-like Japanese warm-heartiness. I tried this bass and honestly I think the bass is well-balanced and really easy to play. It's a good bass.

When I was playing the bass, Yuichi came and helped me playing the good music. I had not seen him for a long time. His hair is longer and he is much bigger than before.
