Moving

I have moved.

　大晦日でございます。引っ越しでございます。この日を迎えるまでに色々とドラマがあったのでございますが、紙面の都合で割愛させて頂きます。（うそぽんです。書くのが面倒なだけです）。ああ、ついにこの審判の日がやって来てしまったのでございますよ。私の荷物のほとんどが本と服と楽器だったのですが、労苦を重ねてドーンと処分しました。本だけで８箱もあったのですが、１ヶ月かけて２箱にし、服も半分にしました。今度のアパートは荷物を置く場所もないので、死にものぐるいで荷物を減らしましたよ。そう、例えるならば、蛇が体が大きくなって脱皮したのに、またその脱皮した皮の中に戻るような作業でした。

It is the new year's eve. Today I am moving out from my old apartment. This is the Judgement Day. The big part of my stuff was books and cloths. I had eight boxes of books but I reduced them to two boxes and I got rid of half of my cloths. There is literally no place to store unneeded stuff in the new apartment so I put my best effort to minimize the load. Oh, that was like the snake has to go back into its own cast-off skin. It seemed impossible.

　私の柔術の先輩で、私と同様にしょっちゅう引っ越しする人がいたのですが、その人の荷物は大きい物はベッドとテレビと本棚だけで、後は本当に段ボール箱２つだけという羨ましい方がいました。ウチのバンドの岳史さんもボストンからニューヨークに移って来た時は車に段ボール箱１つだけで引っ越して来たと言っていました。ハァ〜、毎日キチンと捨てる物は捨ててれば、こういう事ができてしまうのですねぃ。今の私には到底ムリな芸当でございます。

I remember one on my old Jiu-jitsu buddy who moves every year like I myself used to do, and he had bed, TV and bookshelves for the big stuff and had only two more boxes for everything else. Takeshi in my band also told me that he had only one box when he moved from Boston to New York. Gosh, how can they possibly do that?? I guess they have good system of throwing stuff away regularly and efficiently. Oh well.

で、なんでこのクソ忙しい日に限って雪やねん。 So why is it snowing on this super busy day??

　私の場合、段ボール箱２箱にはほど遠く、目一杯モノを減らして、それでも車３台分の荷物がありました。車１台分は全部楽器で、バンドリーダーの一雄さんの家に置かせておいてもらい、残りの車２台分の生活用品は、ルームメイトと私の車で新しいアパートへと運びました。（ああ、私はまだ小さい子供のいる女性に、雪が降る中、引っ越しを手伝わせてしまいました。誠に申し訳ありません）。前の部屋も4.2畳の狭い部屋だったのですが、今回はさらに狭い3.7畳です。でもベッドが1.2畳分占めているので、実質２畳半。んで、あまつさえ部屋が狭くなったというのに、前の所のように別の部屋に物を置いておくということができません。この２畳半に全てを収めなくてはなりません。私も実際にそんな事が可能なのかどうか分からなかったのですが、車２台分の荷物をこの部屋に運び入れた時、当然の事ながら２畳半のスペースは床も見えなくなるほど、物で埋まってしまいました。目が点でございました。

　とりあえず見なかったことにして、前のアパートへと戻りました。そして最後に出る前に掃除をして、ルームメイトから引っ越しソバと年越しソバをご馳走になり、アパートを後にしてギグへと出かけました。３年４ヶ月も住んだ家ですので、家を離れる時はさすがに感無量でございました。

　この引っ越しにあたり、ルームメイトの二人とウチのバンドリーダーの一雄さんには死ぬほどお世話になりました。本当に本当にありがとうございました。一平、感激の至りでございます。

In my case, I cut to the bones but still had three car-loads of stuff. One load was all of my percussion instruments and it went to the house of Kazuo the band leader of WaFoo. Two loads came to my new apartment and, I tell ya, the room was so packed and I could not even see the floor. I was so worried but I had to leave the room as it was and go back to the old apartment to clean up. I had a gig afterwards also.

Then my old roommate cooked a nice soba noodle which is Japanese tradition to eat on right before the year changes and also when you move, so it was killing two birds with one stone. I had a nice bowl of soba noodle and left for the gig from the apartment where I had lived for 3 years and 4 months.

I really want to thank my old roommates and Kazuo the band leader. They helped me a lot in this moving process. Thank you guys very very much. I owe you guys big time.

今年の汚れは今年のうっちっに。なんとか期限内に前のアパートを綺麗にできました。これ以前の写真をお見せできなくて、誠に残念です。というか、以前の写真を皆さんに見せたら、私、友達が一人もいなくなります。以前、うっかり親戚に私の部屋を見せてしまった時、『ナウシカに出てくる腐海みたいだねぇ』と、ハァ〜とため息をつかれました。 I cleaned up the old apartment. The room was a sty and it was all upside down, but I miraculously finished cleaning in time.
